I thought it would fit better in the 50s section since that's where the vast majority of the run (and surviving episodes) are from. But either decade is fine, just so it's added somewhere on the list.

As for shows that began in one decade and ran through to another (and sometimes even a third) decade the decade they started in is the decade they originated in IMO. Here's a few examples:

    !950s

    Lassie

    The Twilight Zone

    Death Valley Days

    Sea Hunt

    Bonanza

    1960s

    The Brady Bunch

    The FBI

    I Dream of Jeannie

    Ironside

    Hawaii Five-O

    1970s

    Happy Days

    Little House on the Prairie

    Starsky and Hutch

    1980s

    Cheers

    Highway to Heaven

    21 Jump Street

    The Wonder Years

    1990s

    Buffy The Vampire Slayer

    Touched by an Angel

    Sabrina, the Teenage Witch

    Walker, Texas Ranger

If we're including British sitcoms, we have to mention 'The Good Life' (Good Neighbors to us Americans that watched it on PBS).

Well... since you're listing British series, here are quite a few:

'Allo 'Allo (1982 - Entire series - BBC)

As Time Goes By (1992 - Entire series - BBC)

The Benny Hill Show (1955 - The Thames years released in several sets [1969-89] - A&E)

    A Bit of Fry & Laurie (1989 - Entire series - BBC)

I'm sure there are more but that's what I remember off the top of my head from collection at home. Some are the 2000s but are still "classics." Some of those listed as "BBC" releases also had earlier BBC/Warner releases (and may still be that but not indicated as such on Amazon).

The season 1 release of Soap has syndicated episodes (2) and a few episodes have music edits. Also, on the season 4 DVD set all episodes are missing the 'On the last episode of Soap' openings.
