I'm curious how others store their gear, both the frequently and less frequently used. I've traditionally had one bag to hold the less frequently used items and another to hold my standard kit, with the thought I can just grab and go the latter and not have to think about what's in it. However, in the last few years I've been using my compact for more of the day-to-day things and the DSLR for very specific events. Because of that I have very few "grab and go" moments with the DSLR and find I'm doing more kit assembly / prep the day before, based on what I think the event will require. Consequently I've been thinking of creating a dry (or humidity controlled) box to hold all the DSLR gear and just keep my bags empty until needed. The advantage is that I won't wind up searching across multiple bags for things (which always seems to happen now), though if there is a spur of the moment thing, it will be more challenging to get it all together (though keeping a camera body with a walkaround lens attached in the box should remedy that). As far as the dry box, I'm actually thinking of using a 48 quart Igloo cooler with a tray of orange silica (which can be reactivated as needed) to keep things dry. I haven't been able to find others who do this kind of thing, so any feedback about the concpet would be appreciated also.
