IMG-5214.JPG IMG-5215.JPG DTS processor mounted in the rack, DTS reader mounted on top of the projector, cables all run and ready to test tonight. Gonna run Halloween H20 as a test feature to make sure the track is in perfect sync with the picture.

Regardless of how "state of the art" your equipment is, there is the chance of a piece of expensive gear going "south". This happened to me several weeks ago. My Dolby CP650 crapped out leaving me with NO processing and in my HT everything goes through the Dolby processor. Lucky for me I kept my original Dolby CP500 digital processor just-in-case so I made the equipment swap. Research tells me that the newer CP650 is not as reliable as the older 500. I made a decision to have the 650 repaired and put it up for sale. In the mean time I bought 2 more CP500's which are much cheaper than the 650's. Those will last me until I'm long gone from this earth. Since the CP500 didn't support Dolby EX, I had to purchase another piece of equipment to decode the EX channel. I've been wiring all of this up the last couple of weeks and hopefully by the middle of next week I'll be finished. Everything is working great now except the EX rear channels. Waiting on a power supply first of next week to finish the transition.
    The fun just never ends!!!!!!!

Everything put back together now. Amp rack includes a Dolby SA10 which pulls out the EX track in 35mm prints (if recorded in EX) and a 3 way switcher for position #1 Oppo/SRD/Dolby A/Dolby SR/Mono, position #2 DTS and position #3 4 track magnetic sound-on-film. Rack.
    I'm all done!!!!!!

Second screening of Gladiator tonight. First was a Dolby Digital viewing but tonight I'm gonna present it in DTS Probably won't be able to tell the difference in the tract but I'm anxious to hear how the EX (DTS rear) channels sound. This is a beautiful 35mm print. Looks great on our 1.6 gain matte white screen. Looking forward to hot popcorn, Coke and a great movie tonight.

For those members who have an interest in such things, here is what DTS discs look like. The time code reader on the projector picks up the DTS track printed on the film stock and syncs it up with the digital sound tract on the DTS discs. Amazing how this technology works! DTS disc.

Made some changes in my amp rack today retiring one of my QSC 900 amps, replacing it with a newer QSC DCA 1644 4 channel amp so now I have all four surrounds on one amplifier. I also retired my BIG EV (Hefler) sub amp and used an existing QSC 900 in a bridge configuration to power both 18" subs. More efficient, less rack space used with a really nice current model DCA amp.
    I'm happy.

    new rack.

I just found this thread. I wanted to thank you, John, for taking me to Don's place to see his theater. It really is impressive! It truly is a home THEATER!

Wow!! It's been 8 years since I watched PA #2 and I had forgotten it was a prequel. I had also forgotten that it's possible to have a scary "horror" movie with NO music. It's got a great track, mostly center channel and a hell of a lot of sub. It was a fun watch tonight!!

Just scored a absolutely beautiful 35mm print of the original JURASSIC PARK.
Considering the ones I've seen from this franchise this is still my favorite and the technical significance of this is that it's the very first DTS title released from Universal Pictures. It does have a SR track but no SRD track. DTS is the only digital source playable with this film.
FedEx says they will have it at my house Friday of this week so this will be our Saturday night screening choice.

    Jurassic-Park-Logo.

Our first screening tonight of Jurassic World...Fallen Kingdom was very enjoyable. BD looks and sounds great. It was only fitting to screen this latest in the franchise so we can start all over again this weekend with the original JP.
I've got to say that watching sequels to JP is sorta like watching TITANIC. You already knew the ship was going to sink and with JP you know the dinosaurs are going to run amuck and kill most everyone!!! Oh well, welcome to the movies.

Wow what a absolutely beautiful print. We hadn't seen the original Jurassic Park in years. The condition of this original print just blew us away! The original is STILL my favorite JP movie.
