Still no Bob's Burgers, and they're three seasons behind now.
MTM and Reba complete series sets. Wonder if they will be all single-sided discs and not double-sided flipper discs?
MTM only had one double sided disc. If they repress it, odds are they'll just leave the bonus materials off of season 2 rather than press an all-new disc for those few features.
Reba, though... yeah, that might be worth an upgrade. Too bad they'll likely still be using the 4x3 masters instead of the widescreen ones that are all over cable.
It'd be great if they were singles!
I haven't seen Reba reruns recently. The last time I was watching them, they were still using the old 4:3 fullscreen versions.
Are these widescreen versions open-matte or the sides just extra "filling the space" (like what was allegedly done for The Shield) ?
Or are they lazy dumb croppings of the 4:3 versions ?
If Fox were to use these widescreen versions, then they would have to reauthor all the dvds again, most likely as single-sided discs from the start.
The episodes I compared were from season 6, which is what was airing that day, and they weren't tilt and scan. And with the age of the show, it's likely they at least protected for widescreen at that point.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say open matte. But it's been a couple years since I looked.
But Yeah, I just flipped to CMT, which is airing Reba right now. It's the season 3 premiere, in widescreen, no obvious signs of tilt and scan, looks more like open matte than any other option based on the amount of space between the in-show credits (which would've been in the 4x3 safe area) and the edge of the screen.
More Fox MODs (and when Empire is MOD, I think Fox has pretty much given up on home media), some Mill Creek Delays, and Rocko's Modern Life gets a rerelease through CBS/P instead of Shout. I'm betting they won't be going in and fixing the edits to the episodes, though.
How the mighty have fallen.
IIRC, season 1 of Empire was released on bluray.
To add insult to injury, there is a new extra basketcase drm strain which has been appearing on some burned dvdr discs released as Fox mod tv season sets.
Apparently this new basketcase drm strain has been tripping up current grey market ripping programs, with plenty of vocal complaints about it.
(This would be my #1 reason for not buying any Fox dvd-mod released titles which are using burned dvdr discs).
(This may sound like complete wishful thinking).
Let's hope that once Fox is gobbled up by Disney, these dvd-mod releases come to an end.
I can see that happening -- but it won't surprise me if it's because they don't put anything out at all. Unfortunately.
If Disney controls Fox's home media, we're doomed. Disney won't even put out their own shows. What happened to Agents of Shield? They only did one season. Season two was a mod, then they couldn't even do that. The rest of the series was only in Britain. They abandoned How to Get Away With Murder...Scandal season 6 got delayed for a year, then piggy-backed onto a monster set with season 7. Just try finding a copy of Once Upon a Time on blu; they only seem to exist if you order them on the internet---and they come dear. There's dozens of shows from ABC, the Disney Channel and Freeform that have never seen the light of day on home media. And other stuff that Disney controls like the Marvel Netflix shows...they get put out a year after their release. At least they used to...not lately.
Any word on season 1 of “The Orville”? I am really glad I purchased two DVD-r machines, and have a copy of each show on DVDRW waiting to be recycled. I can’t make blu rays of course, but at least I have a record of things like “Galavant” etc.
I've been hearing October and November as probable release dates for the DVD, though you'd think we'd have a firm date by now if that were the case.
It's a TCFHE show, so don't count on a Blu-Ray release.
Sad to say but i've gone to any recent show like the Orville over to Digital Downloads as its becoming the only source for Hi Def TV.
Its been slightly more than 6 months since Mayberry RFD Came out on Warner Archive MOD. Still waiting for Seasons 2 and 3
