I'm chocking already about the release

I saw it first run on a Broadway sinema.;) Forget the name.

I first saw it at a Pussycat Theater, a small adult film chain that used to exist here in California. The Pussycat Theaters were relatively popular because they were regularly policed by staff to make sure there wasn't anything unseemly going on in the seats. During their heyday, they were relatively clean too, not that much different than the cleanliness of multiplex cinemas of today.

I was only 17 but they sold me a ticket without checking my ID. 🙂

I saw The Devil in Miss Jones there too.

Already out on Bluray in Europe for those who cannot wait.

    http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Deep-Throat-Blu-ray/188974/

it's been stated that the European release is a upscale of a 720 file,

was gong to think of something humorous to say in this thread, but was afraid it would just go maybe a little to far. If a bad pun or worse shows up, here goes. Apparently this may be one of the few releases that Damino's Estate has worked on to have restored, as they are trying to preserve their fathers legacy. Damino Jr. has a website directly discussing this. and for the last few years has driven around with one of his fathers cinematographers, Larry Revene interviewing actors and actresses of the "Golden Era" or "Porno Chic" era to get their views, maybe to be used as extra features. Who knows, the website hasn't been updated for some time now.

This film has more notoriety than most because of lawsuits between two adult distributors , and well the financing isn't to clear, you look for yourself. But even after that it has become part of american pop culture, to the point of having a documentary made about it, and bio film of Linda Lovelace, so i suppose with time and acceptance that a certain amount of "those films" have gained enough respectability. hope this is a quality release, and hopefully some other "classic" titles will get a similar release, cant wait to see if a film with a scene edited by Orson Welles gets the same treatment

  4. Wasn't this the original Big Gulp before 7-11 took the name?

C'mon guys, I don't normally advertise releases from this company because we really are limited on space (we usually stick to the bigger distributors), but I couldn't help but throw this title out there and let you guys run with it.

I wonder what percentage of the forum membership will complain that the film is in an incorrect aspect ratio.

I wonder if the blu-ray will be a 4k down rez from a new elements scan of an interpositive from the original negative, or from a negative supplanted with dupes.

I realize that DEEP THROAT is a film of some historical importance, but that $39.95 price tag is hefty for such a terrible movie. And it runs only 62 minutes or so. Hopefully it will have some extras.

    62 minutes?

    Could've at least gone 69.

Probably the World Cinema (on 49th and Broadway). IIRC- this theater was called The World because prior to turning to adult films, the theater specialized in foreign fare

As I recall, and I may not have this correct, after DT was pulled as porn, the marquee read something like: “throat cut – World mourns”

Most of these dupes were discovered in front of the camera.

  10. I think a reason this film is so famous is because the plot is about a woman seeking her sexual gratification. I’m pretty sure Time Mag did a write up about that. There was a claim it was feminist. I never bought that. It’s a hard core film made to appeal to horny men.

I'm sure we're all down with that.

  12. Does the link to this thread really need to be on the home page? My family checks this site for my reviews…. And it’s strange to see this Preorder thread above my review of “Won’t You Be My Neighbor.”

Back then, they had a lot more hair "down there." Does that count as an "extra?" 😀

  14. 2 things…. 1) The picture headlining this thread is not DEEP THROAT, it’s LOVELACE with Seyfried and Saarsgard. 2) I cannot wait to read Robert Harris’ “A Few Words About…. Deep Throat”

I wan't to know if Nolan had a hand…..in the restoration.

  16. I heard the soundtrack before actually seeing the film. Ordered it on LP from Sandy Hook Records in the early 1980's. The music is actually entertaining.

Bought the DVD around 12 or so years ago. It's good enough. Probably won't upgrade to Blu-ray.

  17. I was travelling in Europe for the first time. As the movie wasn't available in the theaters where I lived, I decided to see what all the fuss was about while in Amsterdam (appropriately). One viewing was enough for my lifetime.

  18. I read somewhere where the European Blu Ray was an R-rated cut version without the hardcore shots. I would think this is what is being made available by Amazon? Seems they wouldn’t want a potential backlash from some of the American public for selling XXX Rated movies?

Lovelace performed in this movie under duress and coercion. It's rape caught on film.

Depending on who you talk too, and when she talked…

A better Damiano film, THE MEMORIES WITHIN MISS AGGIE, got a blu-ray release this month, restored from "16mm archival negative elements" and features a fancy slipcover.

Vinegar Syndrome do some great work, I know Mr. Harris has had some nice words in regards to their work on THE TELEPHONE BOOK a few years back.

First, a bit of perspective: Before the internet, porn was banned in Norway. Most people think that Scandinavia was the origin of smut but this applied only to filthy old Denmark and Sweden. Norway was a very pious country, with heavy censorship of sex and violence on film right up until the 1990s. It was only because David Lynch's Wild at Heart won the Palm D'Or at Cannes, that it was allowed uncut in cinemas. Martin Scorsese took the Norwegian film authorities to court when the censorship board was due to cut Goodfellas the same year, and another film at the same time with a very violent scene, the Coen brother's Miller's Crossing, was also passed uncut due to artistic merit. Prior to that, the original Robocop was cut SEVEN minutes for theatrical release – and that was the R-rated version! Porn was basically banned until the Internet just made it impossible to enforce. In 2006, the publisher of a Scandinavian porn mag went to the Supreme Court in Norway, after giving away copies of his porn magazine for free, outside parliament. The Supreme Court found that it was impossible to ban porn containing sex between "consenting adults".

But for my generation, laserdiscs imported from the States were the first means for me to get my sweaty hands on filth. I phoned up Ken Crane's Laserdisc and nervously imported Debbie Does Dallas, Cafe Flesh, Deep Throat and The Devil In Miss Jones between Criterion titles, so that they wouldn't think I was a pervert. As Deep Throat and Devil In Miss Jones had "classic status", I naturally thought it would be a good idea to show these at the film club I ran for my fellow students. You know, Bergman one week, Devil In Miss Jones the next. I projected laserdiscs using the new state-of-the-art Barco projector our faculty had installed in 1990, in the best auditorium. I put together a legendary triple-bill: Disney's Dumbo, Sam Raimi's Darkman and Gerard Damiano's The Devil In Miss Jones. I still remember the stunned horror and disgust of my fellow students when The Devil In Miss Jones started. The picture was absolutely terrible – a perfect example of vinegar syndrome. Everyone left before the first side had finished playing. Nearly 30 years later – people still remember me as a notorious student, thanks to that triple-bill. I don't mind being a notorious figure, but I don't think I could ever watch Deep Throat or Devil In Miss Jones again.

I wonder what percentage of the forum membership has never seen the film.

I wonder what percentage of the forum membership will think this is about Watergate, not knowing where Mark Felt's anonymizing moniker came from.

    The Obsolete Man

    Could've at least gone 69.

Well, if they wanted to be egalitarian about it.

I believe the Brits would call that a growler. Amazing what one could learn on Top Gear.

and here in the States this …

is a Growler … View attachment 50027 One would have to have a Deep Throat to drink a full one at once … which may be required to watch the film in one sitting 😉 …
I hope you remember as there will be an oral exam after the film ….

  23. so i had posted a question on that other site because they have a MVD Insider on there,

    here is what i posted

    MVD Rewind Guy,

ok so grown-up stuff in the back room, I have a couple of questions about a Damino film that is being release in November.

so here goes, i know that this title was release overseas, in the correct aspect ratio, but every review, is questioning the picture, as being an up-converted 720 to 1080p presentation.

Damino's Family is preserving his legacy by having his films restored, so the question is,… is this a properly restored version, correct aspect ratio, correct running time, ahem no edits, and are there going to be any special features. The Family has been working on.

Not that this is a great film, but it is a novelty of it's time that started the Porno Chic era.

and the answer i got back:

Although this is NOT "Rewind", I did work with them on the packaging and urged them to hire a historian for a commentary. I was told that this is a 2K HD transfer and not an up-res.
