Denon and Marantz with HEOS Built-in Support All Major Voice Engines

This morning, Google announced that users can now ask a Google Assistant built-in device (such as Google Home or Google Assistant app) to control music across Denon, Marantz and HEOS products. The program, which is called “Works with Google Assistant,” ensures that Denon and Marantz products with HEOS built-in marks the first time in the industry where all three major voice engines, including Google, Siri and Alexa, are supported. These products also support Josh.AI, a voice-controlled home automation system designed for integrators.

The following Denon, Marantz and HEOS devices are compatible and associated with this news:

Google says that “Works with Google” will continuously improve its features moving on into 2019, but presently at its launch, once music playback is initiated via the HEOS app or compatible music player, users can ask Google Assistant to control compatible Denon, Marantz and HEOS products. Examples of volume-based commands include “Hey Google, volume 25 in the kitchen”, “Hey Google, volume up in the living room” and “Hey Google, unmute the HEOS 7”. Meanwhile, transport-related controls might sound like these: “Hey Google, next track in Tom’s speaker” or “Hey Google, pause the living room AVR”.

By early 2019, “Works with Google” capabilities will include asking Google to play music (station, album or song) from music services currently supported in HEOS (but not Spotify, Apple Music or Google Play Music), power on/off, input switching and ‘implicit targeting’ (control without the need to specify a device’s name).

  1. I love my new Marantz SR-8012 but honestly do not need that extra stuff! Do not need Google, Siri and Alexa, voice assist or the Josh.AI, a voice-controlled home automation system designed for integrators. To that I say no thanks!
